The Farm.
We farm about 600 acres of arable at Littleton Farm, with crops including Winter and Spring Barley, Winter Wheat, Oilseed Rape and Linseed. Alongside this we have about 130 head of cattle, 20 of which are breeding cows. We typically calve in March and April. We have two members of staff, Jonathon and Dan who are a key part to our operation! Keep watch to see what they are getting up to.
We have a resident cow who has been with us for fifteen years. Her eartag number is 001 and she’s always been known as “Number 1.” She was bought by my Grandad in 2009 as a beef heifer along with three others and we had no idea that they were pregnant. So they stayed in the breeding herd. For various reasons the other three have now gone but Number 1 has stayed with us. She hasn’t been the most productive cow and only had a handful of calves but she’s worth her weight in gold in other ways. She knows the farm like the back of her hoof and is so handy when moving groups around. She’s also great at keeping sick animals company or being the bull’s friend when he’s off duty.
Our bull is called Pete. He is a South Devon bull and is super friendly! He loves a good back scratch.
